A popularizer of mathematics, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory for the Popularization and Promotion of Mathematics at the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and creator of the project Mathematical Études. Mathematical Études is a website featuring popular-science stories about modern mathematical problems and visualizations of various mathematical ideas.
For his work, he received the 2010 Presidential Prize of the Russian Federation in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists “for outstanding results in creating innovative educational technologies and in the popularization and dissemination of scientific knowledge.” He was awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences for exceptional achievements in promoting scientific knowledge.
He was also awarded the Leelavati Prize “for contributions to the art of mathematical animation and mathematical model building in a style that inspires both young and old, that mathematicians around the world can adapt to their diverse applications, and for his tireless efforts to popularize genuine mathematics among the public through videos, lectures, and an outstanding book.”
